Madonna/Esther writes How My Life Changed op-ed for Israeli newspaper

Madonna wrote an op-ed for the Israeli newspaper Yediot Ahronot, published today. From what I gather, Madge (Hebrew name: Esther) wrote the piece in English, and it was then translated into Hebrew for publication. The piece is called “How My Life Changed” and it’s all about Esther’s religious awakening 14 years ago, around the time she was pregnant with Lourdes (Hebrew name: unknown). It’s during that time that Madge/Esther got really involved with Kabbalah and started telling everyone she was Jewish now. She’s made several trips (or “pilgrimages”) to Israel, and has plans to bring her “Sticky & Sweet” tour to the holy land.

Lots of media sources are calling the op-ed a full-fledged “article”, but it just seems like a personal essay, albeit one published on the front page of a prominent Israeli daily:

MADONNA is now a newspaper columnist.

In a front-page bylined article in Israel’s Yediot Ahronot, the Material Mom says her life was changed by Jewish mystic Eitan Yardeni when she was pregnant with Lourdes 14 years ago.

“I suddenly realized that I spent my entire life worrying only about myself and soon I’ll be responsible for the life of another person,” she writes. “I started seeing that being rich and famous is not the end of the road, but only the beginning.”

I suppose we’re not going to get the full translation of the piece for a little while, but I can guess what it says. Stuff about how Madonna became a better person when she embraced her faith, how it influences her work, how it influences her family. Here’s the thing – I do believe Madge became a better, more fulfilled person with motherhood. But I still think, in her mind, everything is all about her. And how fulfilled are you as a person of humble, simple faith if you’re getting massive amounts of plastic surgery and working out your veiny, gristly man-arms five hours a day?
