Point Pipers Spanish Mission treasure Mainhead sells for $69m
An Australian family living overseas has snapped up a Spanish Mission treasure on the Point Piper waterfront for a whopper $69m — one of Sydney’s biggest ever sales.
Since it was sold off-market, no marketing pictures are available of the Wunulla Rd home known as Mainhead, which has been painted white and extensively renovated since this shot was taken in 2002.
With the owners having received numerous offers in recent years, it’s now known to have sold via Ray White Double Bay’s Elliott Placks and Allan Fettes, with the Sotheby’s managing director, Michael Pallier.
All are bound by confidentiality agreements, though independent sources say the deal was done in the past few days.

Property records show the 1930s home is owned by Rebecca Lacey, the wife of businessman Simon Ehrlich, who bought it for $10.5m in 2004.
On a 1200sqm block, the home has stunning harbour views and the residents have the choice of either the harbourfront pool or a private beach when they want to take a dip.
It also offers a jetty and one of Point Piper’s few permanent moorings.
Before Lacey and Ehrlich moved in, Mainhead was owned by the Armstrong family, who’d paid just £22,500 in 1952.
The Armstrongs had struggled to find a buyer when they first launched it to market just before the Sydney Olympics in 2000 and had to drop the price several times to get the deal done three years later.
Wunulla Rd is home to a range of big-hitters, including former PM Malcolm Turnbull and his wife, Lucy, who lives close by Mainhead, and Channel Seven Commercial Director Bruce McWilliam.
All but three of the top 10 Sydney house sales have been in Point Piper, with the top sale $130m for Uig Lodge by Atlassian co-founder Scott Farquahar late last year.
