It was a big weekend for Uzo Aduba, who plays Suzanne “Crazy Eyes” Warren on the hit show, Orange is the New Black. The actress took home a Creative Arts Emmy for her portrayal of Crazy Eyes, and to say she is happy about the honor would be a gross understatement. “I feel so full, that’s why the tears come out. I’m stuffed really. I’m beyond full. My cup runneth over right now. I feel absolutely all of those things: I feel full of joy, like a fountain. Mission accomplished,” she says of her emotions when her named was called for the win.
The award was handed to her by Morgan Freeman, and Aduba was a bit star struck when the Hollywood icon handed her the statue. “It’s like you’re walking and you’re aware that you’re walking toward Morgan Freeman, but you’re fairly certain you should still be sitting on your seat. You’re like, ‘Maybe I’m embarrassing myself, maybe they didn’t call my name, maybe somebody else’s name. I don’t know what’s happening,” she said of that moment in her life.
Prior to winning the award, the fairly new actress said she felt the moment was surreal. This win was a first for the actress, who was born and raised in Massachusetts. Her character is one that’s well-loved by her fans, and it’s certainly one that has been in the media often. In fact, celebrities such as Julianne Hough were criticized last year at Halloween for donning black makeup and heading out for a night of celebration dressed as Aduba’s character, Crazy Eyes.
